Fall Dinner and a Movie

I really enjoy having little “parties”, and sometimes the only reason I need to have a party, is that I simply want to see my friends!  And recently I did JUST that! I invited 5 of my girlfriends over for a “Dinner and a Movie” girls night, because it had simply been too long since we’d all seen each other.  I met the majority of these ladies through running my personal health and beauty business with Arbonne International.  I was automatically impressed with their vegan products and European standards, but what blew me away even more was the amazing community!  I have never met so many strong, encouraging, and just genuinely nice people in my entire life than I have since finding Arbonne.  So when I sent out a group invite and immediately received back excited confirmations, I was one happy girl!

Being that it’s Fall, I wanted to have a semi festive theme.  On the menu was spaghetti squash two-ways, anti-pasta skewers, my special caramel apple martinis (served in champagne flutes, of course!) and since we were going to be watching a movie, there HAD to be freshly popped popcorn!

Our dining room table only sits four, but I didn’t let that be an issue!  I served dinner buffet style and we all congregated outside to our mini outdoor sanctuary that my lovely boyfriend gutted and re-did when first we moved in.  Being that we live in Southern California, even though it’s Fall, we were blessed with a very comfortable 75 degree night, so it was a perfect situation to have dinner alfresco!

A few girls offered to bring extra wine, and one of the bottles brought just so happened to be a wine from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s winery “Miraval Provence”.  (I didn’t even know they had their own line of wine, did you?)  My friend who brought it joked, “It’s the only thing left of their marriage now.”  Too soon? LOL!  One of the other gals volunteered to bring dessert and she impressed us all with her choice of spread.  She pick out a large assortment of petite yummies from Whole Foods and displayed them on this two tier serving tray.  Isn’t her presentation adorable?  We were all swooning when she walked in the door carrying it.  See that little fruit tart on the bottom?  I snagged that one! YUM!

After dinner I popped up a big batch of popcorn on the stove top and we all piled into our spare room.  This room serves as our guest room, my office, and most importantly our home theater!  A projector, surround sound, beautiful rustic desk, and an 8 way convertible couch make this possible!  To follow the festive theme we watched the Tim Burton movie “Coraline” (Because I’m a weenie and can’t watch horror flicks without being scared for several weeks after!)  None of the girls had seen this movie before so I was thrilled to be able to share it with them!

As all the girls were gearing up to head home, they confessed that I had ruined them forever with the 110 inch movie screen and that they could no long fully enjoy a movie at home on a normal television, but that they all had such a good time and we should make this “dinner and a movie” night a more regular event!  Also that a signature cocktail should always be included.  I totally agreed!

To have a party you don’t have to have a huge house, or make an elaborate meal!  I live in a 2 bedroom place and dinner was SIMPLE!  It took about 40 mins to make, and only because that’s how long it takes to roast a spaghetti squash.  Everything else came together in 10 minutes or less, and I had one of my homemade sauces simmer while the squash cooked.  I started a little bit before hand, so once everyone arrived, the house smelled delicious and the food was warm and ready when we were.  A good tip is to make a simple dish, preferably one that you’ve made before and know well, so prep is stress free!  And if you’re not much of a cook, do a potluck!

So when was the last time you got together with your friends?  If it’s been a while, I encourage you to set up a little party of your own!  And please let me know if you do, I’d love to hear about it!
