Top 5 favorites of early 2017

Overall, I consider myself somewhat of a minimalist.  I’m constantly getting rid of things and I hate having “extras” of an item saved for later or having items in excess.  For example, I don’t see the point in having more than one pair of running shoes.  I will continue to wear the same pair until they’re sufficiently worn out and then get a new pair after I toss or donate the old pair.  It’s a similar situation with my master bedroom bedding.  I have one set of sheets, pillow cases, and duvet cover that I adore, and when I remove them to clean, my bed stays naked for the hour or so it takes to wash and dry everything.  That being said I’m not a perfect minimalist.  I can never have enough dresses, my closet is FULL of them.  Clothing is my weak spot for sure.  Life is all about balance though right?  So one bed set and one pair of running shoes to my 1,000 dresses totally works!  I know you can’t read sarcasm, but I’m HOPING you all laughed at that last part!  ANYWAY,   when I do find new items that are super useful or bring a positive aspect into my life, I’m all about it! And today I’d like to share with you my top 5 favorite things so far in 2017.  A few are brand new to me, and a couple are oldies that continue to bring extreme joy and improve my everyday life.  They are all very different as well, so I’m bringing them to you in no particular order, I love them all equally for what they bring to the table.

1. Kate Spade New York “All In Good Taste” Travel Tumbler

Kate Spade "All In Good Taste" Travel Tumbler

This thing is AMAZING! Not only is it cute and doesn’t leak in my purse, but it also keeps hot liquids hot for 3 hours and cold items cold for 9 hours.  This is ideal for my Arbonne detox tea.  Being a massage practitioner, there are days that I don’t have time to finish my tea between clients, but with this tumbler it’s not an issue.  As long as I close the mouth piece it stays nice and hot.  And when it says they say keeps your hot liquids hot for 3 hours, it means the liquid doesn’t start cooling down for 3 hours, so really your liquids will stay at least warm for longer. YAY! Get yours here.

2. Kung Fu Tonic 2

This wee bottle packs a punch!  Kung Fu Tonic 2 is a natural immunity booster that’s organic, raw, vegan, an just plain awesome!  With ingredients including apple cider vinegar, heirloom garlic, ginger, cayenne, and turmeric it’s not only good for you, but freaking delicious!  Just opening the bottle a smelling this stuff makes my mouth water. It’s made locally in Laguna Beach California, but can also be ordered online and shipped anywhere!  You can take this tonic straight by itself or use it to enhance your favorite foods.  I enjoy it drizzled over a salad along with a little extra apple cider vinegar and avocado oil.  A  little bit goes a long way!  Learn more and order yours here.

3. “Get It Done” Weekly Planning Notebook

So you might be thinking, “Okay it’s a planner, so what?”  This is SOOO not just a planner though!  There are several well thought out sections in this spiral notebook that help you stay on track.  Monday – Friday each have a section for three “Top Priority” items so you can cross those off before anything else, along with a water section to help make sure you’re getting in your 8 glasses a day!  Other great features include a “Things To Be Thankful For” section, a page for weekly menu planning with shopping list, and a full “ETC” page for anything extra you need to remember.  And what’s even better is each week is completely customizable, in that you fill in the dates yourself.  So say one week you’re away on vacation in Belize and you don’t use you planner, you won’t be wasting any pages because they aren’t preset like your typical yearly planner/calendar.  LOVE THIS!  It’s perfect for starting this new year off right!  Nice and organized!  Get it done, here.

4. Mieroglyphs Bracelet

Like many ladies, I enjoy accessories.  Especially jewelry.  These bracelets are hand crafted, vegan, and cruelty-free.  Each bracelet comes with a positive inspirational quote engraved on the inside, but if you have a special quote or mantra that’s special to you, they will happily engrave it in your bracelet and make it one of kind.  The bracelet sizes can be made perfect for your wrist too!  They come in several different designs.  The one I chose is called “Cappo.”  I was drawn to it because of the plaid design.  It’s the perfect bit of pop for an otherwise plain outfit, plus plaid never goes out of style!  (HELLO, BURBERRY?!)  I also really like the “naked” design which is just plain cork along with your choice of metal clasp.  On their website they state “Our intent as the Mieroglyphs organization is to provide accessories as vehicles for motivation, inspiration and positivity. With every Mieroglyphs order you can feel good about being a responsible and conscientious consumer.”  All of this makes me happy, and here at Yes To Champagne it is my focus to find the little things in life that makes one feel good.  This bracelet and company completely fit the bill!  Find what design speaks to you, here.  PS! Homemade “Sriracha” Sauce

We enjoy some spice in our house!  We also like to *try* and grow our own veggies.  Sometimes we succeed and other times not so much.  This little jalapeno plant is something we are quite proud of though.  He’s come along with us in his little pot to every place we’ve moved to in California over the past 5 years, and every year he produces more and more peppers!  One thing we’ve learn about jalapenos through this little guy is that if you allow green jalapenos to stay on the plant and “ripen” they will eventually turn red in color and become Fresno chilies!  And guess what you can make with Fresno chilies….SRIRACHA!

The first time I made Sriracha our plant was overflowing with peppers, but right now since it’s winter the growth has slowed down to only a few baby peppers at a time.  So I got help from the grocery store to supplement our supply for this recipes batch.  Although you have to let the flavors of this recipe develop for 24 hours, it’s amazingly simple and SO worth it!  After eating my homemade Sriracha exclusively for a while and then having the store bought kind at a restaurant, I much prefer the homemade stuff.  It tastes so fresh, clean, and vibrant, plus I love knowing everything in it is real food!  **For all my Arbonne clean eating followers, I’ve included an “Arbonne for 30” friendly version too! Just one tiny switch! Homemade Sriracha

Homemade Sriracha

Ingredients:

  • Approximately 2 cups sliced Fresno chilies with seeds (that’s about 19 peppers to make it easy)
  • 1 packet of Traders Joe’s garlic cloves, roughly chopped (if using a regular bulb of garlic about 7-10 medium cloves)
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon agave
  • 2 teaspoons ground Himalayan pink salt (sea salt is ok too)

In a 32oz mason jar add the Fresno chilies with seeds, garlic, both vinegars, and salt.  Close tightly with a lid and give it a shake to get everything well blended together.   Let the mixture sit for 24 hours on the counter.

The next day pour all the contents from the jar into a saucepan and add the agave, stirring to incorporate.  Over medium high heat bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer and let cook for 5 mins, stirring occasionally.

Once the 5 mins is up, remove the pan from the heat and let cool to room temperature.

When the mixture is cooled, pour it into a blender and puree until very smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.

After blending, YOU’RE DONE!  Just pour the Sriracha into a jar and store it in the fridge.  Stays good up to 3 months.

**For those of you who are following  the Arbonne 30 day Clean Eating Challenge, this recipe can be made Arbonne friendly by omitting the white vinegar and using all (1 and 1/2 cups) apple cider vinegar.  It will be slightly sweeter, but still dang delicious!

We put this Sriracha sauce on everything!  Tacos, eggs,  Asian dishes…really anything you like hot sauce on, this sauce will do the trick!  And that makes me pretty darn happy 🙂  I hope you give this recipe a try, and I would love to hear what you think!  Feel free to leave questions or thoughts in the comment section below.

Fall Dinner and a Movie

I really enjoy having little “parties”, and sometimes the only reason I need to have a party, is that I simply want to see my friends!  And recently I did JUST that! I invited 5 of my girlfriends over for a “Dinner and a Movie” girls night, because it had simply been too long since we’d all seen each other.  I met the majority of these ladies through running my personal health and beauty business with Arbonne International.  I was automatically impressed with their vegan products and European standards, but what blew me away even more was the amazing community!  I have never met so many strong, encouraging, and just genuinely nice people in my entire life than I have since finding Arbonne.  So when I sent out a group invite and immediately received back excited confirmations, I was one happy girl!

Being that it’s Fall, I wanted to have a semi festive theme.  On the menu was spaghetti squash two-ways, anti-pasta skewers, my special caramel apple martinis (served in champagne flutes, of course!) and since we were going to be watching a movie, there HAD to be freshly popped popcorn!

Our dining room table only sits four, but I didn’t let that be an issue!  I served dinner buffet style and we all congregated outside to our mini outdoor sanctuary that my lovely boyfriend gutted and re-did when first we moved in.  Being that we live in Southern California, even though it’s Fall, we were blessed with a very comfortable 75 degree night, so it was a perfect situation to have dinner alfresco!

A few girls offered to bring extra wine, and one of the bottles brought just so happened to be a wine from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s winery “Miraval Provence”.  (I didn’t even know they had their own line of wine, did you?)  My friend who brought it joked, “It’s the only thing left of their marriage now.”  Too soon? LOL!  One of the other gals volunteered to bring dessert and she impressed us all with her choice of spread.  She pick out a large assortment of petite yummies from Whole Foods and displayed them on this two tier serving tray.  Isn’t her presentation adorable?  We were all swooning when she walked in the door carrying it.  See that little fruit tart on the bottom?  I snagged that one! YUM!

After dinner I popped up a big batch of popcorn on the stove top and we all piled into our spare room.  This room serves as our guest room, my office, and most importantly our home theater!  A projector, surround sound, beautiful rustic desk, and an 8 way convertible couch make this possible!  To follow the festive theme we watched the Tim Burton movie “Coraline” (Because I’m a weenie and can’t watch horror flicks without being scared for several weeks after!)  None of the girls had seen this movie before so I was thrilled to be able to share it with them!

img_0920

As all the girls were gearing up to head home, they confessed that I had ruined them forever with the 110 inch movie screen and that they could no long fully enjoy a movie at home on a normal television, but that they all had such a good time and we should make this “dinner and a movie” night a more regular event!  Also that a signature cocktail should always be included.  I totally agreed!

To have a party you don’t have to have a huge house, or make an elaborate meal!  I live in a 2 bedroom place and dinner was SIMPLE!  It took about 40 mins to make, and only because that’s how long it takes to roast a spaghetti squash.  Everything else came together in 10 minutes or less, and I had one of my homemade sauces simmer while the squash cooked.  I started a little bit before hand, so once everyone arrived, the house smelled delicious and the food was warm and ready when we were.  A good tip is to make a simple dish, preferably one that you’ve made before and know well, so prep is stress free!  And if you’re not much of a cook, do a potluck!

So when was the last time you got together with your friends?  If it’s been a while, I encourage you to set up a little party of your own!  And please let me know if you do, I’d love to hear about it!

Cheers!
