Fresh Autumn Favorites

Every now and then I have a bit of a shopping problem.  When I say shopping problem, I mean that I walk into a store and suddenly have a strong urge to buy ALL THE CLOTHES.  Typically, if I stay out of the shops, the problem is non-existent…kind of an “out of sight, out of mind” thing.  That is…until recently.  Out of no where, online clothing advertisements started catching my eye, and the online shopping spree began!  Since the weather will be cooling down a bit soon, my purchases were focused around closed toed shoes and cozy long sleeves.  I also made it a point to choose items that are easy to mix and match to give me multiple outfit potential.  And as a result, my first “New to My Closet” post came about.  I get pretty darn excited about new clothes (even if it’s just one piece!)  So from time to time, this will be the area where I share with you my newest closet goodies, and let you know where you can find them for yourself!

Fall Dinner and a Movie

I really enjoy having little “parties”, and sometimes the only reason I need to have a party, is that I simply want to see my friends!  And recently I did JUST that! I invited 5 of my girlfriends over for a “Dinner and a Movie” girls night, because it had simply been too long since we’d all seen each other.  I met the majority of these ladies through running my personal health and beauty business with Arbonne International.  I was automatically impressed with their vegan products and European standards, but what blew me away even more was the amazing community!  I have never met so many strong, encouraging, and just genuinely nice people in my entire life than I have since finding Arbonne.  So when I sent out a group invite and immediately received back excited confirmations, I was one happy girl!

Being that it’s Fall, I wanted to have a semi festive theme.  On the menu was spaghetti squash two-ways, anti-pasta skewers, my special caramel apple martinis (served in champagne flutes, of course!) and since we were going to be watching a movie, there HAD to be freshly popped popcorn!

Our dining room table only sits four, but I didn’t let that be an issue!  I served dinner buffet style and we all congregated outside to our mini outdoor sanctuary that my lovely boyfriend gutted and re-did when first we moved in.  Being that we live in Southern California, even though it’s Fall, we were blessed with a very comfortable 75 degree night, so it was a perfect situation to have dinner alfresco!

A few girls offered to bring extra wine, and one of the bottles brought just so happened to be a wine from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s winery “Miraval Provence”.  (I didn’t even know they had their own line of wine, did you?)  My friend who brought it joked, “It’s the only thing left of their marriage now.”  Too soon? LOL!  One of the other gals volunteered to bring dessert and she impressed us all with her choice of spread.  She pick out a large assortment of petite yummies from Whole Foods and displayed them on this two tier serving tray.  Isn’t her presentation adorable?  We were all swooning when she walked in the door carrying it.  See that little fruit tart on the bottom?  I snagged that one! YUM!

After dinner I popped up a big batch of popcorn on the stove top and we all piled into our spare room.  This room serves as our guest room, my office, and most importantly our home theater!  A projector, surround sound, beautiful rustic desk, and an 8 way convertible couch make this possible!  To follow the festive theme we watched the Tim Burton movie “Coraline” (Because I’m a weenie and can’t watch horror flicks without being scared for several weeks after!)  None of the girls had seen this movie before so I was thrilled to be able to share it with them!

As all the girls were gearing up to head home, they confessed that I had ruined them forever with the 110 inch movie screen and that they could no long fully enjoy a movie at home on a normal television, but that they all had such a good time and we should make this “dinner and a movie” night a more regular event!  Also that a signature cocktail should always be included.  I totally agreed!

To have a party you don’t have to have a huge house, or make an elaborate meal!  I live in a 2 bedroom place and dinner was SIMPLE!  It took about 40 mins to make, and only because that’s how long it takes to roast a spaghetti squash.  Everything else came together in 10 minutes or less, and I had one of my homemade sauces simmer while the squash cooked.  I started a little bit before hand, so once everyone arrived, the house smelled delicious and the food was warm and ready when we were.  A good tip is to make a simple dish, preferably one that you’ve made before and know well, so prep is stress free!  And if you’re not much of a cook, do a potluck!

So when was the last time you got together with your friends?  If it’s been a while, I encourage you to set up a little party of your own!  And please let me know if you do, I’d love to hear about it!

Cheers!

And so it begins…

For many years now, creating a blog, along with writing a book, have been a few aspirations of mine.  I remember back in my early twenties chatting with my girlfriend Leah over happy hour in downtown Seattle, filling her in on my latest dating story.   And oh man, did I tend to have some really messed up great dating stories.  So much so that I proclaimed that I should really write a book about all my suitors, my experiences with them, and and the crazy things that came out of their mouths.  Naturally my girlfriend agreed, and came to the consensus that it would be a best seller.  As a young twenty something though, I never seemed to get around to jotting down my stories, and since then have permanently blocked most of those events out of my brain.  Probably for the best…

Now years later, I’ve moved to sunny southern California and have been in wonderful long term relationship with my boyfriend Joel, and my era of crazy dating stories in the city has officially ended.  And that’s what brings me here today to the blog world!  It’s time to turn this aspiration into a reality!  YAY!   I love going on adventures, traveling near and far, and seizing the moment.  Excitement is what I live for, and lucky for me I get excited about not only the big things, but the little things as well!  Like finding a new outfit, coming up with new recipes, and even my beautiful laundry basket. (Yes really! I look at this glorious basket we throw clothes in and feel giddy inside!

Here at “Yes to Champagne” I plan on sharing my adventures and little pleasures with you, in hopes to inspire you to look inside your everyday life and find the little joys that make YOU feel giddy inside.  And celebrate them!  Because everyday life is worth celebrating, and in my book celebrations call for champagne. So please join me and say YES!

Cheers <3
